Dating the Amarna Period in Egypt: Did a Solar Eclipse Inspire Akhenaten? by William McMurray.

The author wonders whether a solar eclipse, i.e. the death and rebirth of the Sun, could have inspired the Aton reforms and the move to Akhet-Aton. Among the evidence taken into account is a scene in the tomb of Meryre I that depicts the solar disk accompanied with curious arcs. Based on such astronomical data, the author makes suggestions for an absolute chronology for the Amarna period.
